Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Athlete wellbeing is one of the utmost priorities of the MRC. We are very aware that most marathon athletes are completely self-funded, often balancing training, racing and a full-time job. The MRC and Paddle UK have a variety of supports available for athletes to access.

The MRC has an allocated welfare officer for advice, support and guidance for clubs, coaches, athletes and extended parties. For information on the safeguarding support, visit our dedicated page here.

For further wellbeing support, Paddle UK has a dedicated partnership with Sporting Wellness for athletes to access no cost wellbeing and mental health support. See the below summary for more information and how to access it.

Sporting Wellness

Sporting Wellness is a mental health and wellbeing charity.  Any athlete aged 16 or over included on Great Britain Junior, U23 or Senior teams can have guaranteed access to a suite of wellbeing services with no costs, no waiting lists, no minimum illness requirements and 100% confidentiality.

These services will remain available to athletes for up to two years after Great Britain team inclusion.

Their services include:

  • Counselling sessions
  • 24/7/365 support line and LiveChat
  • 24/7/365 professional legal guidance
  • An online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme (CBT)
  • Wisdom AI – an AI platform for instant wellbeing advice
  • Extensive wellbeing tools and engaging features
  • And much more

To access support go to the ‘Get Support’ page of the Sporting Wellness website, scroll down to the form and enter your details. If you are simply interested in downloading the My Healthy Advantage App to browse wellbeing tools, you should still complete the form. If you don’t know the answer to a question, just write what you can, or ‘i don’t know’.

For the question “Do you have a stakeholder code?”, enter the Paddle UK code – BC001.
