2022 French Nationals Selection

Following the Marathon National Championships in Worcester on the 27/28 August, the MRC Selection Committee has chosen a team to represent British Canoeing at the French National Championships. Congratulations to all.

SUPs at Hasler Races

Following a recent request regarding SUPs in Hasler races, below is a note from the MRC Minutes of November 2018 –

Item 7 Domestic Racing – Point g. “It was agreed that these craft (including SUPs) should not be forced upon race organisers, but race organisers would be free to accept entries from such craft in appropriate circumstances, if they felt confident to do so within their risk assessment.” .

Inclusion of SUPs remains at the discretion of the organisers, but the MRC (subject to any concerns raised by the race organiser) would fully encourage SUPs to partake in the marathon events that they oversee.

As they are propelled by a single blade the paddler’s classification would be as for canoe, according to age and gender.

NB: many elements of the event and logistics continue to remain unclear and are subject to change. However, we are working with BC and the ICF and continue to have this as our ambition.

2022 French Nationals and 2022 World Championships Selections

2022 French Nationals

A team of up to 12 U16 athletes will be selected to take part in the French National Championships on the 17-18th of September 2022. Selections will be made from the K1 and K2 U16 and U14 races at the Marathon National Championships at Worcester. Priority will be given to athletes who have not attended an international race this year.

To be considered for this event, athletes must complete an availability form by midnight, 23rd August 2022.

2022 World Championships

A team of up to 12 athletes will be selected for the World Championships. The lead assessments for this are the 2022 National Championships and the 2022 European Championships.

We are aware of a clash for the final assessment at the National Championships for some Junior and U23 athletes who have made the Sprint World Championship team. Should those athletes still want to be considered for the Marathon World Championships, we invite them to submit their mitigating circumstances in writing to the Chair of the Selectors in line with section 4.1 of selection policy. A link to the latest policy can be found here: 2022 Selection Policy

To be considered for this event, athletes must complete an availability form by midnight, 23rd August 2022.

ACM election results

Many thanks to all those who attended the online 2022 MRC ACM on 13 July 2022.  Apologies again for the problems with the initial Zoom link – these were beyond our control, but hopefully everyone managed to get there in the end.

The committee will be meeting on Sunday 11 September 2022 (before the start of the Pangbourne Hasler) with the annual all-day meeting on Saturday 19 November 2022 at Cropredy.  We will continue to consider the issues raised at the ACM and, if you have further comments to make on those, or anything else you would like the committee to discuss, please contact either the chair (Stan Missen) marathon.chair@vol.britishcanoeing.org.uk, or the secretary (Siobhan Urquhart) marathon.secretary@vol.britishcanoeing.org.uk.
